What is Hearts and Arrows?

Hearts and Arrows Diamonds

Diamonds which have perfection in symmetry and proportion and which are cut within a defined set of parameters (which are incredibly difficult to achieve) exhibit the sensational patterns of eight symmetrical Hearts and eight symmetrical Arrows when looked at through a Hearts and Arrows viewer.

The pattern looks like this:

It is important to note that incredibly few diamonds polished throughout the world are well cut enough to exhibit Hearts and Arrows and it is generally accepted that Hearts and Arrows is the pinnacle of diamond cut when it comes to round brilliant cut diamonds.

Hearts and Arrows is visual proof of perfection in cutting. Either a round diamond exhibits the pattern, or it does not. If it does it is perfectly cut. If not, cutting has not been maximised.

Only round brilliant cut diamonds exhibit this phenomenon of Hearts and Arrows (as well as some quasi-round shapes which are cut in exactly the same way as a round brillinat cut, but are cut to appear sqaure).
